BonaMail Server Settings
If you want to use your new email account through Microsoft Outlook, Outlook Express, or Netscape Mail programs, as well as our online email interface, here are the settings you will require when you add an account to your email program.
POP3 Server: mail.bonavista.net
SMTP (Outgoing) Server: mail.bonavista.net
If you need to see how to set an email account up via Outlook, please refer to our Help Desk from the main menu.
However, some Internet Providers require you to use their server. If so, please use theirs. For example, if you are an Aliant / Sympatico customer in Newfoundland, it would be smtp1.nf.sympatico.ca or mail.personainternet.com for Persona Cable Internet. This varies depending on your area of the country and your internet service provider. Everybody with an internet connection at home has this information as everybody gets pop email accounts from their server providers such as Aliant, Persona, or Rogers as part of their packages.
We recommend using your own email software such as Outlook, Outlook Express, or any other email program rather than web based email as you WON'T LOSE ANYTHING if our system goes offline. Email messages download to your computer rather than being kept on our server.
Your Username will be your email address in full. (i.e. johnsmith@bonavista.net) Using just johnsmith will not work. Your password will be assigned once we get back to you after you register.
Remember, if this is all too complicated, you do not have to set this email up through your email software at all. You can use the BonaMail interface anywhere, anytime. Please, however, do not keep too many messages stored. Always clear out your deleted items folder and any unwanted / junk email as to not overflow your storage on our server.
Please keep in mind that Webmail is NOT as fast as using POP email (Outlook, Outlook Express, etc) as you are running your email from this website's server, and not a dedicated email server like other web mail interfaces. Performance will be slower. To get normal, fast speed, you will have to use regular email software and setup normally.
